About Vitiligo.nl
Founded on 26 January 1990, Vitiligo.nl is a national patient organization in the Netherlands dedicated to supporting people with vitiligo and related skin or hair conditions. With approximately 1,500 members as of 2021, the organization plays a central role in connecting patients, sharing knowledge, and advocating for improved care and quality of life.
Vitiligo.nl provides a trusted platform for individuals seeking reliable information, emotional support, and opportunities to engage with others who understand their experiences. The organization not only shares the latest research findings but also encourages members to actively participate in community activities, ensuring that patients are both informed and empowered.
Its initiatives include patient advising and support through seminars, educational activities, and peer-to-peer contact. Members benefit from resources such as the association’s glossy magazine Spotlight, an informative website, and an active Facebook community. Annual events, including Member and Kids’ Day, foster connection and inclusion, while regional “Get2gether” meetups help build local networks of support.
Vitiligo.nl also works closely with hospitals and other international patient organizations, ensuring patients’ voices are heard in healthcare discussions. In 2021, the organization strengthened its medical partnerships by establishing a formal collaboration with Amsterdam UMC/SNIP, the Dutch vitiligo competence centre. It also supports research, including studies on vitiligo in relation to COVID-19.
In addition to medical advocacy, Vitiligo.nl invests in public education, organizing lectures for schools and community groups to promote understanding and reduce stigma. The association embraces both in-person and digital engagement, using online platforms to reach wider audiences.
Vitiligo.nl continues to be a vital source of encouragement, solidarity, and knowledge for people living with the condition across the Netherlands.
